Q: What kinds of volunteer opportunities are there?
A: There are all kinds of opportunities to volunteer! From keeping score at a football game, to chaperoning dances and field trips, to supporting classroom activities, there are many different types of activities with many different types of time commitments. We encourage you to check in at the site you are interested in volunteering at to see what current opportunities exist.
Q: What do I need to be cleared to volunteer?
A: That depends on the situation. For positions that have minimal interaction with students, such as operating the scoreboard at a football game, simply expressing an interest might be enough to get you selected. Other volunteer roles, such as tutoring students or chaperoning a field trip will require information sheets, fingerprint clearance, completion of some workplace training required by law, and proof of a negative TB test.
Q: If I need TB and fingerprint clearance, will I be reimbursed for the costs?
A: Typically there would not be a reimbursement for volunteer clearances, but there are some exceptions. Check with your school site to see if the position you are interested in has any reimbursement possibilities.
Q: If I have done fingerprints through a different agency, can that count for clearing my fingerprints with WPUSD?
A: Unfortunately, no. When we get fingerprint clearances, we also get updates for any issues following the clearance. When you are cleared with a different agency, we are not privy to any updates. We need to ensure our volunteers are cleared when they are brought on board, and that they remain cleared as long as they are with us.
Q: How long are fingerprint and TB clearances good for?
A: Fingerprint clearances are good for as long as you volunteer for us-however, if you leave and then come back in the future, you may need to get print clearance again. TB clearance is typically good for four years.
Q: Who do I submit my paperwork to in order to be cleared?
A: All volunteer clearance paperwork should be submitted to the site/sites you wish to volunteer at. Once a volunteer is cleared, they are added to a spreadsheet that is shared with all sites so they know what volunteers are cleared and may be utilized.
Q: Where can I find the volunteer forms?
A: The forms can be found on the district website on the Volunteer page under the Personnel Department; they can also be picked up at the Personnel Department at the District Office. School sites may also be able to help you access the forms.
