Transitional Kindergarten: 2025-2026

All the required documents for registration that you will need to complete are provided below as a reference and are also included within the online registration.  If you need assistance completing the online forms, please contact your child’s school.  If you are having technical difficulty accessing the online registration system, please contact the Technology Department at helpdesk@wpusd.org. We are happy to help!

Please read the information and follow the directions/steps below to register your child for TK.

STEP 2 - REQUIRED FORMS:

Complete each form below. Please note, these documents are included within the online registration (Step 1). They are also listed below for your convenience. These forms are required and need to be submitted within the online registration or printed and turned in to your child's home school (for submission instructions, see Step 4).

1. Special Programs/Health Concerns Form English/Spanish - this form is required, even if your child does not participate in any Special Education Programs

STEP 3 - REQUIRED PERSONAL DOCUMENTS:

Submitting the following documents is required as part registration process. You have the option to upload your documents through the online registration process (Step 1) or turn in copies to your child's school office. 

1. Proof of Age: Any of the following are acceptable - Original or certified copy of birth certificate; statement by the local registrar or county recorder certifying the date of birth; baptism certificate; passport, or when none of the foregoing is obtainable; an affidavit of the parent, guardian or custodian, or any other appropriate means of proving the child's age
2. Proof of Residency: Any of the following are acceptable - Property tax payment receipts; rental property contract, lease, or payment receipts; utility service contract, statements, or payment receipts; pay stubs; voter registration; correspondence from a government agency; declaration of residency executed by the parent or legal guardian of the student.
3. Proof of Immunizations: Copy of Immunization Record

Required Immunizations:

• DTP - 5 doses (4 doses are acceptable if the 4^th dose has been given on or after the 4^th birthday)
• Polio – 4 doses (3 doses are acceptable if the 3^rd dose has been given on or after the 4^th birthday)
• Hepatitis B – 3 doses
• MMR – 2 doses
• Varicella – 2 doses

STEP 4 - SUBMITTING YOUR REGISTRATION:

Families have two options for submitting your Required Documents (Step 2) and your Personal Documents (Step 3):

1. FULLY ONLINE - You will need to download the Required Forms linked under Step 2, save them to your device, and upload them within the online registration platform. You will also upload your Personal Documents (Step 3) within the online registration platform (you can scan or take photos of your Personal Documents for upload).  If you upload all required documents to the on-line registration and submit, your registration process is complete.

2. PARTLY ONLINE/PARTLY IN PERSON - You will complete the online portion of the New Student Registration (Step 1). Then you will print the forms under Step 2, fill them out entirely and turn them in to your child's home school. You will also bring hard copies of your Personal Documents (Step 3) to your child's home school.  If you opt to NOT UPLOAD your personal documents to the on-line registration, you must bring those items into the school office to complete your registration process.

Q: How do I know if my child qualifies for Transitional Kindergarten (TK)?
A: Students who turn 4 on or before September 1, 2025 are eligible for TK. 
 
Q: What if my child is eligible for Kindergarten, but I want him/her to start in TK?
A: Students who are eligible for Kinder may be considered for TK, based on space available. Parents will need to provide evidence why their student is better suited for TK rather than Kinder. Please contact Reno Penders at the District Office for more information 916-645-6350.
 
Q: What is the difference between TK and Kindergarten?
A: TK is a yearlong pre-kindergarten program, which uses curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. The purpose of TK is to ensure children are prepared for Kindergarten, emphasizing early literacy, math, as well as social and emotional development.
 
Q: At which schools do you offer TK?
A: Sites offering TK will be determined based on total enrollment numbers. 
 
Q: What times are the AM and PM classes*:
A: AM: 8:00am - 11:20am (regular schedule and early release schedule)
    PM: 11:20am - 2:40pm (regular schedule)
    10:20am - 1:40pm (early release schedule)

Q: What do I do if I want to sign my child up for the Dual Language Immersion Program?
A: Please indicate interest in the Dual Language Immersion Program when completing the online registration process (step 1).

To apply to the program:

• Log into your Parent Portal account on PowerSchool
• Clink the link to Forms on the lower left side of your screen
• Click on the General Forms tab
• Click on the Dual Language Program Application
• Check the box to sign up for the program
• Make sure you click submit

Q: How will we find out if we are selected for the Dual Language Immersion Program? Is it first come, first serve?
A: The Dual Language Immersion Program will be based on a lottery selection process. Every completed application turned in by the due date will be included in the lottery. Confirmation of selected students will be communicated after the lottery process is complete. 

Q: When can I begin the registration process for the 2025-2026 school year?
A: Online registration opens on January 7, 2025 at 9am
 
Q: Do I have to turn in my complete packet by a certain date?
A: Priority registration is due by February 21, 2025*
*PLEASE NOTE: We will still accept registration after this date.
 
Q: What if my registration is incomplete (i.e. missing documents, birth certificate, etc.)? Can I still turn it in to reserve a spot for my child?
A: No, incomplete applications will not be accepted.

TK/Kindergarten Parent Information Meetings (Virtual)

• December 10, 2024 TK-K Parent Information Meeting (English) - Virtual ONLY 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Key Registration Dates

• January 7, 2025 at 9:00am - 2025-2026 new student registration (online) goes live
• February 10, 2025 - DLI Priority Deadline
• February 21, 2025 @ 4pm – Priority registration deadline for all grades (TK - 12). Complete registration must be submitted online.
• February 24, 2025 - March 3, 2025 - Dual Language Immersion program parent notification and confirmation of placement
• Late March / Early April 2025 - TK class and school assignment notification
• Summer 2025 – Online registration submission will continue to be accepted through the summer and paperwork can be handed into the District Office while schools are closed.
