Sheridan Elementary

As the City of Lincoln continues to grow, new housing developments—often referred to as “Villages”—bring new families and students into our community. While WPUSD does not control where or when housing is built, we are responsible for ensuring students have access to safe, high-quality neighborhood schools.

In November 2024, the WPUSD Board of Trustees approved assigning future students from the Village 1 development (along Highway 193) to Carlin C. Coppin Elementary and Sheridan Elementary. Based on current enrollment projections, Sheridan is not expected to experience a noticeable impact for the next 3–5 years, allowing the district time to plan thoughtfully and proactively.

To prepare for future enrollment, WPUSD is planning to expand and improve the Sheridan Elementary campus. This work will allow the school to accommodate additional students while also unlocking funding opportunities to modernize facilities and enhance learning environments. These improvements have the potential to bring new programs, resources, and opportunities that benefit all Sheridan students and strengthen the school as a hub for the community.

This planning is necessary in part because the Village 1 development has not yet provided a school site or funding beyond what is required by state law. As a result, nearby schools without available space cannot absorb the projected number of students, making boundary adjustments and campus expansion the most responsible path forward.

WPUSD is committed to transparency and community engagement throughout this process. Sheridan families will continue to receive updates and will have opportunities to learn more, ask questions, and provide input as planning progresses. Our goal is to ensure Sheridan Elementary remains a strong, welcoming, and well-resourced school for current and future generations of students.
