APRIL NITSOS, PRESIDENT

Term Year 2026

I joined the  Western Placer Unified School Board of Trustees in September 2021 to represent Area 2.  My family and I moved to Sheridan in 2019 and we own JANGLES Family Farm where we grow mandarins and Christmas Trees.  I believe that Sheridan is Placer County's best kept secret.

I currently work for Caltrans as a Supervising Transportation Engineer where I manage innovation, research, and data visualization teams.  I have worked for Caltrans for over 30 years.  I have also worked as a licensed real estate agent for Woods of California Real Estate Inc. for over 12 years.

In my spare time, I love to bake, especially with my two daughters, or watch my two sons fish in our pond or ride motorcycles on our property.  Family is the most important part of my life and I love every minute of being a mom and wife (even the hard times).

I am honored to be able to serve this amazing community as a member of the WPUSD Board of Trustees.

Jason is dedicated to big ideas. He started a career in the Fire Service before graduating High School, and in 1996 he was the youngest licensed Paramedic in the state. Throughout his 20 years of service as a First Responder he specialized in emergency medicine, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, and served as a company officer.

His passion for improving the outcomes of patients suffering from cardiac arrest led him to establish Pacific Coast Safety & Training, a resuscitation training center focused on improving the survivability rates of sudden cardiac arrest. The firm’s overwhelming success caught the eye of the American Heart Association’s largest private training center and soon he sold his firm to join Cascade Training Center as a Regional Director in the newly created California operation.

Jason and his cadre of “edu-tainers” changed the way the region trained and responded to resuscitation cases. At one point more than 25 hospitals had abandoned their internal training programs choosing instead to outsource the training to his team of professional instructors. Institutions like Sutter Health, Dignity Health, UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, the United States Air Force and the FBI were among their customers. He revolutionized the teaching methodology through cutting edge simulation and passionate instruction. Jason left Cascade as their Vice President of Strategy, having nearly doubled their revenue to, once again, peruse new and bigger ideas.

As the founder of Synergem Jason helps leaders, and their teams, evolve using communication and leadership techniques assimilated through years of immersion with healthcare, fire, law enforcement and military staff; in situations where the stakes could not be higher. He teaches and motivates as a speaker and coach in a variety of industries and takes an active role in local leadership. Jason serves on the Steering Committee for Leadership Lincoln, the city’s Economic Development Committee and the Lincoln High School CTE Works Advisory Board.

Married with 4 kids he will tell you he is proudest of his family’s achievements and of coaching his daughter’s volleyball teams. One of his favorite quotes is; “I didn’t come this far to only come this far.” ~ Tom Brady.

My family and I retired to Lincoln in 2010 after 20 years of service in the United States Airforce. All 3 of our children have

attended WPUSD schools and our youngest is currently a sophomore.

I am a part time instructor and nutritional counselor at a local Lincoln fitness facility and my husband continues to serve our country part time with Homeland Security. We are now proud grandparents as well and try and serve our community as often as we can.

Being a mother has been my greatest joy, hardest job and most rewarding role I have ever partaken in. I strongly feel that our children are our greatest responsibility we as parents have and I am determined to ensure all of our children have every opportunity and advantage for success.

I look forward to serving all of the children, teachers and staff of WPUSD. I am grateful beyond words for this opportunity the residents of Lincoln, Sheridan and surrounding areas have given me to be a voice and a vote for all in the Western Placer Unified School District.

I’m honored to be a Board Member.  Truly honored.  But I’m most honored to be a husband, father and grandfather of three wonderful grandchildren in Lincoln schools.

There is nothing more important than our children.  We know the world comes at them fast.  So we must help them be ready for it.  Together, let’s work for stronger academics and vocational training.

Innovation is a key part of that.  We need to vigorously promote school electives, clubs and competitions, in coding, robotics, debate, science, technology, entrepreneurship, art, dance, chemistry, engineering, math and agricultural technology.

I trained as a teacher at The Ohio State University followed by USC Graduate School.  I earned Phi Eta Sigma, Academic Honors and proudly played Big Ten, Collegiate Rugby.  Then, served as a State Senate, Chief Legislative Aide.

For 23 years I worked as a Medical Clinic Director and now, for two decades.  I’ve been teaching in, and directing an award winning, Adult Literacy Program.

We know there’s no place better than Lincoln – parks, schools and families.  Let’s hold tight to our core values.  We are truly blessed.
